In the heart of the Gran Madre district, Wallpaper was conceived as a cocktail bar with a strong identity, deliberately going against the minimalist interiors that dominated the early 2000s. Vintage elements, tactile materials, comfortable furnishings and soft lighting create an intimate and distinctive atmosphere, where the contrast between memory and contemporary details becomes the defining character of the project. The Wallpaper project grew out of the desire to create a place capable of standing apart from the polished and often impersonal image that characterised many venues of those years. The interior was conceived through the layering of different elements, combining vintage objects and references with a decidedly contemporary graphic and design language. Behind the bar, a large mirror becomes one of the space’s defining features, enhancing its sense of depth and multiplying reflections, bottles and points of light. The lighting is deliberately kept low and diffused, while the choice of comfortable furnishings encourages guests to stay longer in a relaxed, informal setting: Wallpaper was conceived not simply as a bar, but as a place to linger. The graphic identity also becomes part of the architecture. Outside, a natural iron sign bears only the initials WP, rendered in contemporary typography. An essential and enigmatic gesture that does not immediately reveal the name of the venue, creating a dialogue between the almost raw materiality of the support and the precision of the graphic design. The contrast between vintage elements and contemporary details thus runs throughout the entire project: objects, materials, lighting and graphics all contribute to creating an atmosphere rather than defining a particular style. The Studio focused above all on these details to give the space an authentic character. It is an identity that has demonstrated a remarkable ability to endure over time. Even years later, guides to Turin’s bars and nightlife have continued to describe Wallpaper through its relaxed atmosphere, carefully designed interiors, soft lighting and designer furnishings.
